On a highway, personal safety comes before the tire. Your first task is to get as far from live traffic as the vehicle can safely travel without losing control.
Make the vehicle visible
Turn on the hazard lights and stop in the safest available location away from moving lanes. Stay behind a barrier when that is the safest option. If the vehicle is blocking traffic or anyone is in immediate danger, call 911.
Describe the location precisely
Share a live map pin, highway name, travel direction, nearest exit or kilometre marker, and a photo showing the vehicle's position only when it is safe to take one.
Roadside service requires safe clearance
A mobile technician cannot work in an active traffic lane or an unsafe shoulder. Dispatch is confirmed only after the location and working space are reviewed. Police or a tow operator may be required when the site is unsafe.
Prepare without entering traffic
Keep passengers in the safest protected location, locate the spare and wheel-lock key if they can be reached without exposure to traffic, and follow the dispatcher's instructions.
