The sidewall flexes and supports the tire under load. Damage there is different from a small puncture in an otherwise serviceable tread area.
Do not drive on a bulge
A visible bubble or bulge can indicate internal structural damage. Stop using the vehicle and arrange assessment; a sudden failure may occur without further warning.
Cuts and exposed material
Deep cuts, cords showing, impact splits and severe abrasion are safety concerns. Do not apply an external plug or cosmetic adhesive as a substitute for professional assessment.
Why replacement is often required
Common puncture-repair methods are intended for limited, repairable tread-area injuries. Sidewall and shoulder damage generally cannot be restored safely by those methods.
Send size and damage photos
Photograph the full tire, the affected area, the size and service description, and the vehicle placard. Tire Help can then check likely replacement requirements and current availability.
